Want to know if you have class this week? View the class schedule below; it is also printed in your Confirmation Handbook. What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the sacrament in which the candidate receives the fullness of the Holy Spirit that was given to us at Baptism. This is the same Spirit that filled the Apostles with the zeal and courage needed by all who are to be public witnesses to Christ. Confirmation completes and perfects Baptism. Sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation, it celebrates God’s presence in our lives as the Holy Spirit continues to guide, strengthen, and empower us to live and witness the Good News of Jesus Christ.
For this reason, Confirmation is not just another one of those things that we do because we are of age or because all our friends are doing it. Confirmation is a sacrament of Christian maturity, the sacrament of active assumption of Church membership and apostolic responsibilities.
Confirmation Program OverviewConfirmation is a 2 year program for high school students in Grades 9 - 12 . During the two-year sacrament preparation process, youth candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation will explore topics related to our Catholic faith such as the sacraments, gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, the Commandments and Beatitudes, social justice, morality and decision making, dating and marriage, and discipleship. In addition, candidates will experience full participation in the sacramental life of the Church and complete parish and Christian service projects.
Fall 2011 to Spring 2012 Class schedule
** classes meet once per week begining in September
We recognize that todays high school student has very little discretionbery free time due to the academic and extracaricular demands being placed on them; not to mention the scarce free time parents have in todays society. As a result, we have tried to build some flexibility into the Confirmation class schedule so that a student can enroll in a class that best meets their own personal schedule. All classroom instruction follows the teaching and beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church. See the "Reference Material used in this Course" section below for more information.
What to expect and requirementsThe Confirmation academic year closely models the normal school year, except it is shorter. Confirmation classes meet from mid-September to Mid-May.
How do I pick a Patron Saint? As part of our faith journey, it is helpful to select or focus on one or more Saints for spiritual guidance and as a role models of charity and discipleship. For that reason, Confirmation 1 students are required to 1) select a saint as a role model and source of spiritual inspiration through your sacramental preparation journey and 2) write a Saint Report describing the chosen Saint. The Saint Report Outline document is located on the Confirmation Downloads page and serves as a guide for writing the Saint Report. Additionally, the Useful Links page contains several handy links to aid in your saint research.
The saint you select might be someone with whom you have a connection, or who inspires you. The saint you choose might represent the direction you feel your faith journey is taking, or may represent a strength or attribute you have or feel you need.
Whether you are choosing to focus on the saint you were named after or are selecting a new saint to model after, it is important and necessary that you know a little about the saint’s life and his/her faith journey. Therefore, a short but sincere and prayerful written reflection and presentation on the life of your saint is required and is due in your second year of your preparation journey.
