What is a room parent?Room parents are the liaison between the teacher and the parents of the children in the class. They facilitate communication, foster a sense of community within the classroom, organize parent volunteers for the classroom according to the teacher’s needs, and lead the class fun fair booth and activities. For a more detailed description, refer to the Room Parent Guide in the Resources table.
- Room parents work VERY closely with their teachers. The room parent’s role is to carry out the wishes of the teacher (using the parents in the classroom) and provide support for class activities and special events. You are the teacher’s closest contact.
- Room parents facilitate communication amongst the parents in the classroom. You are the way most parents are kept informed of what is happening in the classroom and around the school. You foster a sense of community within your classroom.
- Room parents coordinate the classroom/grade level activities, booths and donations for the fun fair. The fun fair is a large part of your commitment as a room parent and is a time to use your creativity, get EVERYONE in your class involved, and have fun.
- Room parents enjoy being very involved with their child’s classroom, getting to know the other children and parents, and giving back to the school that is giving so much to your child.
