• Last day to check out books – 5-11

• Last date to take an AR quiz – 5-16
• All books due from students/parents – 5-18 AR Party – 5-23

To help you and your child plan ahead, the cut off date for taking AR quizzes this year will be May 16. The end of the year party will take place on May 23. To be invited to the party, students must have earned 4 levels of the reading rainbow from December 8 through the end of the day on May 16. The points needed are:
K and 1st – 8 additional points
2nd – 12 additional points
3rd – 16 additional points
4th and 5th – 20 additional points

To receive recognition at the end of the year awards assemblies, students must complete the reading rainbow one time. The points needed to accomplish that goal:
K and 1st – 14 total points for the school year
2nd – 21 points for the school year
3rd – 28 points for the school year
4th and 5th – 35 points for the school year

Throughout the school year, as an entire class earns a level of the rainbow, they will receive freeze pops during their lunchtime.

Summer Reading
This summer our students will be required to read two books and complete two book report forms.  For those students who are not yet reading independently, their parents can read with them or to them, and can help in the completion of the book reports.  Students may choose any book to read and AR books can be located on AR Bookfinder (http://www.arbookfind.com).  A letter from Mrs. Dalby will be sent home at the end of the school year with all the pertinent information.

We are open...please come in!
Our media center is open daily from 8:00 to 8:30 for students who are accompanied by an adult.  Additionally, for students accompanied by an adult, the media center will be open Wednesday afternoons from 1:50 to 2:30.

Birthday Book Club
You can honor your child’s birthday by having him/her join our Birthday Book Club.  For a $10 donation, your child can choose a book from a selection of new books in the media center.  A bookplate will be placed in the front of the book and the book will be presented to your child on morning announcements.  Your child will be the first one to enjoy the book and after it is returned to our media center, all of our Howard Drive children will have the opportunity to enjoy the book.  The money collected will be used to buy more books for our media center. Please see Mrs. Young approximately a week before your child's birthday to participate.
