Accelerated Reader  Our Accelerated Reader (AR) program begins on 9-12-11. This year I am very pleased to announce that Mrs. Kathy Penney will co-sponsor the program with me. As in the past, students will earn points and accumulation of these points moves students to different levels of the rainbow. Each level brings different prizes. During the first nine weeks, students can quiz on any level book, however, at the beginning of the second nine weeks, blocks will be placed to ensure that our students challenge themselves to read at or above their reading levels. The blocks are determined through the Star test. Teachers will be able to provide a student's reading level by the end of the first nine weeks. The schoolwide goal is to complete the reading rainbow one time. If a student accomplishes this goal, he/she will be recognized at the end of the year awards assembly. There are also party goals. Points to attend the parties are not cumulative. To attend the first party on 12-14-11 (cut off date for attendance is 12-2-11), students need to earn the equivalent of three levels of the rainbow. The second party will be on 05-23-12, with a cut off date for attendance of 05-16-12, students need to earn the equivalent of four levels of the rainbow. (That's four levels since December 8.)
