President - Amirah Al Idrus
One day in high school, I decided to quit the track team to begin taekwondo. It was nuts. I was nuts. After all, I had been running for seven years. I had been kicking for zero. You can probably tell though, that it worked out: I joined HOT as soon as I got to Hopkins; I am now a junior and it looks suspiciously like I’m the president! I love HOT because of the camaraderie among team members (I've met some of my best friends here) as well as the almost excessive amount of fun we have on tournament trips. When I’m not training (or playing laser tag) with the team, you can find me drawing, trying (unsuccessfully) to do double pirouettes, playing the piano or making pancakes. Oh, and majoring in International Studies and French.

To anyone who is even thinking about being interested in joining, come and try out one of our practices! You don’t need to be experienced to join or succeed in our club. I look forward to welcoming you to our family!

Vice President - Jack Sloane
Before coming to Hopkins, I had spent some time dabbling in Taekwondo. Unfortunately, I never took it very seriously, as I spent most of my active time playing tennis. Needless to say, I was thus left bereft when I succeeded marvelously in popping the strings on both my tennis rackets in the first week of school. This, in turn, led to my joining HOT in my pursuit of insane (not really) fitness. Easily one of the best choices I've made here at college. I quickly found myself much better at Taekwondo than I ever was at tennis; I got second place at a tournament within my first year competing. No, I am not a braggart.

Beyond pure fitness and competition, I found a bunch of great people, many of whom have quickly become some of my closest friends. I'm known among some as "Dragonslayer." - and no, it's not because I spend way too much time playing Skyrim. I just yell really loudly when I spar; true story.

Beyond HOT, I am a sophomore chemistry major/classics minor. I am a stressbuster (I give free back rubs around campus) and also an undergraduate research assistant in an organic chemistry lab.

Treasurer - Album Shen
Hi, I'm Album. When I was young, I dreamed that someday I would become hokage! Now I just want to be strong enough (physically and emotionally) so I won't be bullied by haters. I started HOT because Master CJ and Master Joe reminded me of Goku and Vegeta, and that's something I look for in martial arts masters. I love HOT because it keeps me fit and teaches me techniques to defend myself. My favorite part of HOT is the fun people here and all the funny noises they make when they kick. When I'm not HOT-ing, I like to play guitar, write, draw, read, watch TV, and dominate on social media. I look forward to hanging out with all the new members this year. If you don't know me yet, feel free to come up and ask me, "Like a photo album? Or a record album?"

Secretary - Bill Yu
Yo. I am Bill Yu, your friendly neighborhood Hopkins Olympic Taekwondo secretary. I started TKD at HOT during the first semester of freshman year. My favorite part of TKD is that I can stay in shape, and at the same time, improve my horrible flexibility. This will be my 3rd semester as secretary, so feel free to talk with me about anything – I will make sure your voice gets heard!

Team Manager - Nicolás Wirth

Social Chair - Yunuscan Sevimli
I joined the club as a freshman in Fall 2010 and have been serving my job proudly as the Social Chair since then. I am in charge of dangerous stuff like TKD parties, paint ball nights and ice skating trips. I serve a crucial role within the club and ensure a level playing field by making sure that even the people who don't go to tournaments hurt themselves.

When not training, I always think how I can serve my president better, how we can make HOT an even a more engaging and satisfying experience for all the members and how we can adopt Taekwondo further into our lives as bearers of a balanced and peaceful mind, body and soul.

Favorite Taekwondo move: Tumbling

Fundraising Chair - John Lane
In the words of the late great Tony Montana, "I always tell the truth, even when I lie". I'm a junior and I joined HOT as a freshman becuase I watched tons of martial arts movies as a kid but I had never tried one. When not at HOT I cannot be found (except by Chuck Norris), and spend a good deal of my time preparing for the inevitable zombie apocalypse, which is currently scheduled for the end of this year. I'm also a psychology major and if you haven't guessed by now, I'm a little insane.

Website Manager - Howard Fan
I joined HOT in the beginning of my Sophomore year. Yes, I know I was late, but don't underestimate my enthusiasm for Taekwondo! It's a great form of exercise to improve my endurance and flexibility. Plus, I enjoy the fact that, with every practice, I become a bit more like Donnie Yen (if you don't know him, watch Ip Man. It's an AWESOME martial arts movie.)

I'm responsible for what you see on this website (including the meme picture. You know you like it!) If there's an upcoming event, I'll make sure to post it. In addition, I'll update the website with great pictures and videos of the club. You might find yourself in one of them!
