10/31/11
Happy Halloween! Here is the workout provided by Marc O. to help you get in shape for competitions and just to be a total badass.

Day 1:
- 5x100m Sprints (you don't need to jog between sprints, but go each time as soon as you've caught your breath)
- 8 flights of stairs (pump your feet up and down as if doing high knees, and run up the stairs in the stadium. Walk back down, jog over to the next flight, and repeat)
- 6x10 Box Jumps (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UweKybOuivA do the one they call jump up jump down, and try to spend as little time "down" as possible)

Day 2:
- 3 sets of Dumbbell swings (at some difficult weight, doing as many as you can before needing to take a break, and switching hands each time you lift up. If you forgot what these were:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzf5va-B-9E&feature=related I personally don't raise the weight over my head for fear of dropping it, but it does enhance the workout. You should try to be more dynamic than this guy though, and just pump them out until your legs won't let you)
- 3x12 Lunges with some heavy weight (that's 6 each leg).
- 6x10 straight jumps (just jump, as high as you can, and try to spend almost no time on the ground).

Day 3:
- Run a mile.
- Row 3k.
- Bike 10k (resistance at least 10)
- Run a mile.

Stretch a lot on Day 3, but don't push the stretches on days 1 and 2. Make sure you're eating protein after day 1 and 2 workouts, but don't overeat after the day 3 one.

9/4/11: IMPORTANT
Firstly, concerning classes tomorrow, Monday, Sept 4, there will be no formal classes but there will be informal class. Please come and practice your kicks with your peers.

Also, on Wednesday, we will continue with regular classes with the exception of sparring class being replaced by demo practice.

Furthermore, HOT still needs people to help man the SAC booth on Friday, Sept 9 from 2:00 till 4:30. So far only Vincent and I are signed up to do it. Please email me if you can help out. We really need as much support as we can get.

The Saturday after, Sept 10, we will be holding our normal informal classes from 12-2:00.However, this will also be a MANDATORY meeting for any demo participants. The demo will take place during reg. class the following Monday.

Lastly, sign-up for van certification is at Levering starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 7. PLEASE look into getting certified so that you can help us with transportation to tournaments and potentially any other clubs you may be in.

And for all competitors:
Today ECTC had its annual conference call. There are some changes that have been made for regular tournaments.

Firstly,

Each competitor is only allowed to participate in one division A, B, or C. Also, alternates can only be alternates.

All A team fighters must also purchase Daedo footwear/socks which can be found at this site: http://truescoreeast.com. You don't not need to purchase the hogu/chest protector.

As for point systems, spinning kicks and head shots are now 4 points (for A and B team). And there is a 12 pt gap rule for all divisions.

Lastly, more blackbelts will be able to reach the semi-final rounds of poomse so I encourage all black belts to enter poomse competition.

The first tournament is at MIT, Oct 22. Poomse for black belts is Taeguk 8 for prelims and Koryo for semi's.

Please keep this all in mind while you prepare for competition.

12/19/10
Congrats everyone! You all made it through a semester of HOT and through your finals. I hope you guys are all relaxing now and a lot less stressed. But hey, since you all have so much free time now, it would be best to use that time for working out and staying in shape so we are all prepared for another semester of HOT.

So, I've prepared a class workout log. I urge everyone to fill it out daily/weekly with exercises, form practicing, and stretching that you will all do. Those who have competed in the past semester, your name should be already on the excel. I especially expect each one of you to keep practicing and working out during the break. As a team member, you have the responsibility of making sure you stay in shape so that the competition team does the best it can at tournaments. If you don't try to practice, you'll not only be hurting yourself, but your team members as well. This workout log is meant to provide motivation for you all. You will be able to see what everyone else is also doing so please participate. If your name is not on the excel, please feel free to add it, and start logging in your exercises. The log extends from Dec 20th to Jan 29th. Type what you did (stretched, ran, roundhouse kicked etc.,) and the duration or reps you did. If you can't workout because you're deathly ill, go ahead and log it in so I don't publicly shame you with everyone else.

Other than that, there will probably be classes during intersession, the same time as usual, but I'll get back to everyone with more info later.
So happy holidays everyone! Don't get too fat or fatter! And please fill out the workout log.
