Exhibition
Currents: Contemporary Ceramics is a juried exhibition dedicated to capturing the diverse landscape of ceramics across the nation. The exhibition is sponsored by H.O.T. Clay, a University of Florida student group whose mission is to increase the awareness and understanding of the ceramic arts. Over $200 in cash and prizes will be awarded at the juror’s discretion. The exhibition will be featured in the University of Florida’s Focus Gallery from Jan. 11-29, 2010. The opening reception will be on Friday, January 15 from 7-9 p.m. Accepted artists are responsible for shipping or hand-delivery both to and from the University of Florida’s Focus Gallery. Works will be insured while in the gallery. Accepted artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the exhibition. Details for submitting return shipping costs will be sent with acceptance notices.

Eligibility
Currents is open to ceramics artists age 18 and over who currently reside in the U.S. Work must incorporate clay, be original and completed within the last two years. H.O.T. Clay reserves the right to reject work that the gallery is unable to physically accommodate or which differs from the submitted image. Pieces should not exceed 60 inches in any direction.
 
Jurors

Linda Arbuckle is a ceramic artist and professor at the School of Art and Art History, University of Florida, Gainesville. Arbuckle's work in majolica glazed earthenware is known worldwide, and has been recognized through an Artists' Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a Florida Individual Artists' Fellowship. Artist-in-residence positions in Wales and the People's Republic of China have provided further balance of Eastern and Western resources in her works. She has presented lectures and workshops at the Arrowmont School, Penland School, Haystack Mountain School, and the Archie Bray Foundation. Publications include a feature chapter in the Penland Book of Ceramics: Master Classes in Ceramic Technique, and she has served as a Director at Large for the board of the National Council on the Education for the Ceramic Arts.http://lindaarbuckle.com/index.html

John Byrd

is a ceramic and mixed media artist and assistant professor for the School of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of South Florida, Tampa. Byrd earned a bachelor of fine arts from Louisiana State University, and a master of fine arts from the University of Washington. Byrd uses taxidermy, animal figurines, and other "low" cultural productions to talk about value in American society. Byrd's work has been shown at the Garth Clark Gallery in New York; the Icheon World Ceramic Center in Icheon, Korea; and the Baltimore Clayworks Gallery in Baltimore. He has presented lectures and workshops nationwide, and won many awards.
