2 Timothy 1:9-11 "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: Where unto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles." How we were called to Nicaragua: ![]() When Matthew and Jennifer were dating back in the late 80's, they talked and prayed about becoming missionaries. After 13 years of church ministry in Detroit and in New Haven, God finally called them to Nicaragua. Jennifer had visited the country as a short term missionary in 1997 and had established some relationship with a couple of Korean missionaries there. During Matthew's sabbatical year in 2004, he visited one of the missionary in Nicaragua for two weeks to gain new visions for short term mission plans for the New Haven Korean Church he was serving as the head pastor at the time. However, during his visit, God took control over Matthew's heart to become a long term missionary in that country. Matthew felt such a deep calling to this poverty stricken nation. He called Jennifer while he was down there, sharing his calling. She immediately said "we should obey the calling" and the rest is history. The Juns packed everything and in July of 2005, Matthew, Jennifer, Elise, Emily and Joshua ventured into their new life as missionaries. Meet the Family: ![]() Matthew Jun, (49 years old). He was just beginning to taste the joy of golfing when God called him to the land of heat, with only one golf course that is too expensive to play. Oh, well, golf wasn't meant for him. Besides golf, he loves to go on ebay and look at all the mechanical vintage watches and enjoys reading in a hammock. ![]() Jennifer Han-Jun,(46 years old). Jennifer is the elementary vice principal at the American Nicaraguan School. When she is not engulfed in school work, and since there isn't much to do in Nicaragua, Jennifer just reads and reads. Her fondest memories since the girls' births are the discussion times of the same books they read. Now that the girls have left for college, she enjoys books talks with her friends. She likes to visit cafes for cappuccino or latte on rainy days. Won't you join her? ![]() Elise Jun (19 years old). Elise is enjoying her second year at the University of Pennsylvania. I have never seen a college student who is so involved in every aspect of college life. She works, interns, attends regular bible study group, church, is an MUN (Model UN) representative, travels to Boston, NY and DC regularly to see family and friends. I don't know how she does it, but she does it well! She has decided to major in International Studies and minor in Latin American Studies. ![]() Emily Jun (18 years old). Emily joined her sister at UPENN this year. She is ecstatic! Her short text messages on Whattsup are usually delivered from one of the libraries at her college, always ending her message with, " luv u more!". She loves music, taking photos and drawing. I still treasure her drawings from Kinder years and her recent birthday gift to me of my favorite flower, Iris.. ![]() Joshua Jun (12 years old). Joshua has matured a lot since both of his sisters' departure from home. He is a very responsible 7th grader who is working on who he is, how to treat others, why friends come and go, etc..poor chap. On weekends, he still goes out to play around 7 a.m. and would stay out until 7 p.m. if Mom doesn't yell at him to come and eat lunch and dinner that he had missed while playing outside. He is reading much more though, thanks to his English teacher who has assigned 30 books for the year! He is indeed a treasure! |
