Fishing Alaska - Lake Creek

This page features pictures of several trips my friends and I have taken to Alaska. We ship all of rafts and equipment from Northern California to our favorite rivers in Alaska. Here you will see pictures of us on the Kanektok and Alagnak rivers, as well as Lake Creek, which is actually a river in everything but name.

Our average float takes two weeks, with the longest float of 30 days.

All of the Alaska photos are from scanned 35mm prints.

These Pictures are of my friends and I On Lake Creek, which is about 60 miles North of Anchorage. This river is about 36 miles long and is a fairly wild ride with lots of class 2-3 rapids with a few class 4's. This river has great fishing for Rainbows, grayling and during the first part of July, King Salmon. I landed about 100 Kings during this trip. When In Alaska I fish exclusively with spinners or spoons.

This is a picture of me with a typical rainbow caught at the beginning of Lake Creek. Most rivers in Alaska begin at a lake.

These are typical  Lake Creek Kings.

This is a long (48") King. Hank is helping me hold it.

"Dorff Goes Fishing at Lake Creek", This is my friend Jim Herbst, formally of Leggett now residing near Roseburg Oregon.

These are a couple of photos of some of the calmer water you will find if you float Lake Creek. You can see Hank Sutherland pointing out an obstacle in the first picture.

Jim Herbst and a fly caught King.

This is a Grayling, notice the "sail fin". I don't know who caught it, but you can see the egg pattern fly in it's mouth. I know I didn't catch it, as I won't have anything to do with a fly rod.

Picture taken from the front of the raft, heading down river.

Picture of Cheryl Herbst and Pat G. The last day. You can see that they are tuckered out.
