Generally, handouts will be found in the unit of the current lesson rather than on this page.  This area is meant to be a quick overview of today's activities.  See units for detailed information, and evaluation.  For standards "key" click here.

 Nov. 6  Grammar Bytes - chompchomp - due today; expect a grammar quiz on Monday. In class: notes on Omar Khayyam and The Rubaiyat; students paired to read, paraphrase, and analyze a rubai (pp. 100-101). Presentations on Monday.  ESSAY REWRITES DUE ON TUESDAY.
 Nov. 5  Writing lab today: Return of inclass essay.  All students not making above 80% are required to rewrite the assignment.  Requirements for the revision were distributed in class and can be found here.  Revised papers are due on Tuesday.  A copy of the paper topics can be found here. ALL final papers must be submitted to www.turnitin.com.  For those revising, only submit your revised paper.   Follow all the requirements for revision. Students turn in Koran assignment.
 Nov. 4  Students continued working on Koran assignment (due Thursday)  and Grammar Bytes (chomp chomp) due on Friday.
 Nov. 3      Teacher in-service day; no school for students.  Students complete grammar activity on "commas"  at home. See "Grammar is Our Friend" in the menu list.  Choose Grammar Bytes - Comma handout.  Good luck.  This is due Wednesday.

Students attended the one-act play presentation in the theater.  The following assignments were given to the substitute to relay to the students.  All work is due on Wednesday.

Students should read the background information on The Koran, p. 106. Read p. 107 Guide for Interpreting.Read pp. 108-109 slowly and carefully.  Answer question 1-4 on page 109.  Be sure to answer all parts of the questions.  Read and answer questions under Analyzing Literature on p. 109. Due on Wednesday.

Check on the website and complete the new grammar activity named “Grammar Bytes – Commas.” Look to the left on the menu under "Grammar is Our Friend."  Expect a quiz.  Grammar assignment due on Wednesday, along with answers to questions on the Koran.

Friday - First draft of college essay. 
    Audience:  College Admissions Officer
    Purpose:  Reveal a positive trait about you and gain admittance to the university
    College prompt:  Write about a person or event who/that impacted your life.
    Requirements:  300 - 500 words
(For Ms. Gasaway - write MLA heading and give it a title)
Homework:  Spend 30 quality minutes editing your paper.  Use the experience you've gained this week from reading sample essays.  Remember your analysis of various papers.  What did you like or dislike about those essays?  Apply that to your editing.  Some of the comments in class were:  interesting opening line; short sentence for impact at the end of paragraphs; interesting and precise verbs and adjectives; a topic that we can relate to; a tone in the essay of friendliness
 
Last piece of advice:  Have someone else read your paper and ask them, "What does this paper say about me?"  If the answer is something you don't like, then you know what to do!
Monday  you should have the first revised paper saved on your flash drive.  We will continue editing, so don't worry if it is not exactly what you want.  Come to class with questions on how to make it better.
