We took a quiz over our reading through chapter 7.  We discussed items from the novel as they relate to culture and then began discussing Okonkwo as he compares with his father, Unoka.

We defined and discussed “archetype”.  Groups gave their short presentations on their research topics to help us put the novel into context.  There will be a quiz tomorrow on chapters 1 – 7 of Things Fall Apart.

Each person was assigned a topic to research tonight as homework.  You will need to find out some basic information to share with the class tomorrow to help us put the novel, Things Fall Apart, in context.

 

We finished reading the folktale we began on Monday.  Think about why Achebe included folktales in his novel.

We worked on the seminar prep assignment that will help us process our thinking about the texts we have studied this semester to get ready for our Socratic Seminar in which we will participate on Tuesday.  This assignment must be complete by the end of class on Monday.

  1. The speakers in Pat Mora’s “Legal Alien” and Diane Burns’ “Sure You Can Ask Me a Personal Question” deal with the feelings of being a minority in America. How do the speaker’s feelings about being a minority in the first poem compare to the feelings of the speaker in the second poem? Include one detail from each poem to support your answer. (LA06)
