Directions:  You have one class period to answer the following essay question.  Please spend the first 10-15 minutes planning your essay and the remainder of the class writing.  The essay should shared with me as a Google Doc at homework4mrlister@gmail.com.

Remember: Please use all the conventions of the academic essay as you remember them from last year.   Part of the test is to see how well you remember and use the skills you picked up in writing lab and/or the other English courses you’ve had. Please use specific details from the text.

Question:  Using two of the three works you were assigned to read this summer, write a compare and contrast essay that discusses the main characters’ “journey” in the text.  Keep in mind that this kind of journey may be physical and/or metaphorical.  What common theme (remember this definition?) do these works present?  Use specific examples from each text. 

Hints:  You may choose to consider issues of gender, age, ethnicity, geography, or even economics as a common starting point.
