ALEXANDER

HOLTON
Conservation of Stone Buildings

Alex has been involved in the research and conservation of historic buildings since 2003.
In that time he has developed a keen interest in the care and repair of stone buildings, and continues to contribute to a series of major projects, including the ongoing conservation of the East Front of York Minster
As an independent consultant, Alex specialises in research and documentation, as well as practical repair. He delivers a service which seeks to inform and facilitate conservation in the broadest sense, from surface treatment to masonry renewal
Services include:
  • Documentry research and archaeological survey to establish construction and repair history and significance
  • Condition reports, including recommendations and specifications for conservation
  • Enhancement of measured surveys to convey both condition and historical development
  • The recording of current intervention to inform future practitioners
  • Support for stone cleaning and practical repair with traditional materials, including small-scale trials
