Introduction to Moodle:Moodle is an Open Source Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It has become very popular among educators around the world as a tool for creating online dynamic web sites for their students. To work, it needs to be installed on a web server somewhere, either on one of your own computers or one at a web hosting company. Moodle is also an adjustable learning environment for learning communities. View the video below to find out more. Still not clear? Take a look at this presentation 'Moodle explained with Lego' - great for the visual learners among us. What they're saying about Moodle on the Blogs: | Moodle Activity 1:First thing to do is to visit a Moodle course where you can see how to navigate in that environment. Please visit the Moodle for Dummies course located in the Introductory category of Richard Wallace's website at: http://moodle.wwdad.net/moodle/ Work through the first 6 topics or lessons:
You decide how much to read, view and do. At this stage you are getting an overview of how to use the interface and how to navigate within a course. Second thing to do is download and print the PDF files that Richard has provided for you, called: Moodle for Dummies and Moodle Training Overview. I have attached these two files below for your convenience. Moodle Activity 2:Next you will need to gain access to a Moodle sandpit where you can practice as a teacher and learn how to develop a course to complement your teaching. Please create an account for yourself at the StudyZone Moodle environment where I teach and mentor. I have attached a PowerPoint file below to help you to do that. When you have joined StudyZone at: http://www.studyzone.net/ please notify me via email to: coachcarole2007@gmail.com prior to the training session. I can then add you as a teacher to the Hume Sandpit and you can start adding files, blocks, resources and content. The following activities will be the main focus of the training on October 8. Moodle Activity 3:Part A: Turn editing on and go to the Files tool in the Administration block on left nav bar and create a folder for your uploaded files. Use your first name in the title of the folder. Part B: Select your new folder and upload 2 or 3 files. I have created a set of resources you can practice uploading to the sandpit and they are located in the Moodle Tools section of Resources in this site. You may wish to download these to your desktop from there and then upload to the Moodle topic in the Hume Sandpit. Moodle Activity 4:Access your new TEES Moodle course at the Holmesglen Moodle server.Note: if you experience any difficulty in logging in, please contact your Holmesglen PA, Vlad Mekin at LID. |
