Hollins MFA First Year Students (Class of 2013)
< Brad Efford is a native of the Commonwealth. He lives and writes poetry in an attic in Salem, VA.
< Lori Imsdahl grew up in Minnesota, joined the Army, went to college in New York, and served in Missouri, Afghanistan and Washington state. She's traveled to 31 countries and 48 states, likes tofu, drives a Prius, wants a German Shepherd, and taught herself to swim when she was 22.
< Sam Mitchell is originally from a tiny town in Virginia. He writes fiction primarily, though sometimes one may catch him writing things he claims to be non-fiction. He loves travelling, particularly in New England and in the British Isles. He has a remarkably keen eye for spotting four-leaf clovers. If he could meet any person lost to history, it would be a toss up between Winston Churchill, Jessica Mitford, or Gilda Radner. Right now he lives with his two cats, Fritz and Maurice, who are perennially late on their half of the rent.
< Annie Mountcastle was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. She left the Star City in 2004, studied the world’s religions in Charlottesville, worked in an ice cream shop in New Orleans, coordinated violence prevention projects with youth in central Minnesota and ran a free afterschool program for children in rural West Virginia libraries. She is happy to be back in Roanoke, reading and writing.
< April Walker
I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, although I often get in trouble for not being a Cowboys or Mavericks fan (go Colts!). Poetry is the love of my life, and when I'm brave I dabble in short fiction. I love peanuts, blueberries, and lemons and as a result will eat almost anything that includes those ingredients. An ideal Saturday for me, is wrapping up in my Snuggie (yes I do own one lol) and watching PBS from dawn to dusk :-)
