  • Submissions can be handed in as early as January 31st.
  • Submissions should be in our hands by February 24th, 2012
  • Drop Dead Deadline: February 27th by 7:00AM

Submission Checklist

A note to film makers...

In the past we have received several brilliant submissions but unfortunately have had to disqualify them due to copyright infringement regarding Fair Use. PLEASE be sure to read the rules carefully (further down the page) before submitting. We do not enjoy having to disqualify such hard work.

Procedures

Options for submission:

1. Give your film to your G/T resource teacher and tell him/her to send it to the HoCo Film Fest at River Hill High c/o Mary Jane Sasser immediately! 

    Note: Films submitted to your G/T resource teacher must be received no later than February 22nd.  

2. Send it via normal mail to:

3. Drop it off or send to the above address.

Rules

Those wishing to enter the FilmFest must read and acknowledge the following requirements:

  1. Must be a high school student and live in Howard County.
  2. Must be student directed, produced, and edited.
  3. Film should be 3 to 10 minutes in length.
  4. Must be an original concept or idea.
  5. Must be appropriate for family viewing. (limited sexuality, language, and violence)
  6. Must follow traditional storytelling elements. (i.e. plot, characters, setting, etc.)

Copyright and FairUse Guidelines - MUST READ

Regarding Video (Videotapes, DVDs, Laserdiscs, Quicktime Moves, Internet clips)

Students "may use portions of lawfully acquired copyright works in their academic multimedia," defined as 10 percent or three minutes (whichever is less) of "motion media."

Regarding Music (Records, Cassette Tapes, CDs, Web Audio)

"Up to 10 percent of a copyright musical composition may be reproduced, performed, and displayed as part of a multimedia program produced by and educator or students." - That's the equivalent of 30 seconds of your film. You can use the same 30-second clip multiple times throughout your film.


*If your actors are under 18, please ensure a parent or guardian signs the actor release form.
