The Historical Boffing Association is dedicated to expanding the repetoire of the study of historical armed combat.  Our focus is primarily the Arts of Defence of Medieval Europe especially the Sword.  Other weapons are included such as the poleaxe, dagger, buckler and shield. 

 

The unavoidable difficulty of recreating such combat is that the more realistic the Simulator the more Dangerous the weapon.  As such the method of Triangulation is used to study armed combat.  This means that multiple avenues for understanding the combat are used to best Approximate a true Understanding.

 

To reach this goal we continually seek to develop the most Accurate simulators while still allowing for a minimum of safety precautions.  Our current Simulators are more complicated and expensive to build than traditional boffers but create significant improvements in realistic handling.  Face, head, neck and groin Protection are a must for any hope of realism but such weapons keep these requirements to a minimum. 

 

The Association seeks to create a Standard for such weapons, armour and rules that will be widely recognized. 

 

The Historical Boffing Association provides advanced Training in the use of the sword based on the manuals of Masters of Defence from the 15th century.
