The Fit as a Fighter Program is offered through Imua Fitness at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Free classes are offered for all members of the Student Life Center.
Many participants have no background in martial arts, but we have
students from: Karate, MMA, Ju Jutsu, Judo,
Muay Thai, boxing, Tai Kwon Do and even Kendo. This is the perfect
supplement to your usual fighting class.
This class is ideal for learning kickboxing and boxing, getting in shape, or supplementing your martial arts training. Classes incorporate training in boxing and kickboxing with the benefits of strength, speed, resistance, and balance drills for a full body workout.
The program is designed to meet the needs of martial arts students who want to up the physicality of their training in a non "style specific" class. An advanced class is also offered several twice a week. Conditioning is geared specifically toward a competitive martial artiest, but non-martial artists are more then welcome.
A heavy emphasis on the science behind training is employed. Reaction time, balance, anaerobic, aerobic, peripheral vision, speed, explosiveness, and many other drills are used.
It is not required, but please bring boxing or MMA gloves if you have some.
