What we do

The HIKING CLUB OF WA aims to provide recreational walking and associated activities in both suburban and country areas for exercise, for an appreciation of our natural surroundings and for social interaction with a friendly group of people.

Our main walks are held on Saturdays throughout the year. These usually take place within 50 km of Perth and include National Parks such as John Forrest, Yanchep, the Avon Valley, Jarrahdale and Serpentine, as well as following little known pathways through suburban parks, along the banks of rivers and streams, beach areas (in summer) and historical suburbs such as Subiaco and Shenton Park.

Our walks are graded from EASY to MODERATE and can cover distances from 8 km to 16+ km over a reasonable period of time. Throughout the year, we walk through many different types of terrain from FLAT to UNDULATING to STEEP HILLY AREAS.

Right now it's summer, so our walking program is easier in the hotter weather. We find great and surprisingly interesting walks mostly in the Perth metro area, along the beach and along the river, with shorter walks due to the hotter weather, and hopefully with a nice cafe nearby! Many people are surprised to discover how many enjoyable walks, with good scenery, are available within Perth, once you get out of the car and follow a track, so we can show a good side to Perth in our summer program.

A friendly social air is maintained throughout our activities and occasionally a great coffee place, a meal at a cafe or a scenic picnic spot in the hills may be included in the activity.

About Us

The HIKING CLUB OF WA (Inc) - a member Club of the Bushwalking Federation of WA - was formed in September 2001 to meet the needs of those walkers who preferred to do their recreational activities on a Saturday.

We are a friendly group of walkers who are keen to welcome people from 18 years and onwards.

Our youngest members are in their 30’s and our oldest member, who is in her early 70’s, recently completed a coastal walk in New Zealand.

We are basically a walk and talk group who prefer an easy to moderate walking pace and terrain. We are always keen to welcome new faces along on our activities, whatever your level of fitness level may be.
