Outdoor Classrooms and Natural Playscapes

This project is a good fit for our school learning environment, for the financial climate, for the earth, and most of all, for our kids! Read on to learn more about this innovative project, what to expect, and how you can help.

Mission:
The mission of the Outdoor Learning and Natural Playground Committee is to transform Highlands school grounds to provide a healthy, inspiring, authentic environment where children can experience nature as a basic part of their education and development.
Vision:
A high quality outdoor environment will increase valuable opportunities for our children’s social, emotional, and intellectual development based on an understanding and respect for each other and the environment.
Goals

  • Continue to align with green initiatives already started at Highlands.
  • Reconnect with natural systems and seasons.
  • Enhance a sense of place.
  • Increase educational use.
  • Provide for the appreciation, connection and love of nature leading to stewardship.
