Bringing Biodiesel Fuel to the High Country
High Country Biofuels Cooperative, Inc. is a cooperative association of community members in the High Country dedicated to making biodiesel fuel available to interested citizens in our region. In addition, the cooperative is engaged in educating the general public about the benefits, both economic and environmental, of this readily available technology. Meetings are held periodically, typically at the Agricultural Extension Center in Boone. Check the "Events" link above for the next scheduled meeting date, time and location. The fueling station is operational and available to members of the cooperative and of other biofuel cooperatives in the region. Contact us for access to the fueling station.
Biodiesel is a plant-derived fuel that can be processed from vegetable oils and used to power diesel engines without the necessity of engine modification. The vegetable oil can be extracted from soybeans, rapeseed, or other oil-bearing seeds; or, alternatively, used restaurant fryer oil can be used to process a clean-burning fuel. Any of these plant-based sources result in an environmentally friendly fuel with low pollutant emissions and a much more positive economic outlook for our local communities and less dependence on foreign sources of fossil fuels.
