First Trimester: Sept 23 — In our first Kindergarten class we reviewed the rules of the computer lab by viewing the Computer Rules PowerPoint. Oct. 7 — Students practice technology associated vocabulary using Parts of the Computer Notebook activity. Oct. 21 — Students will play the Letter Sound Game on the SmartBoard. Nov. 4 — Students review color words by watching the video clip of the story Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert on the Bookflix website and then practice identifying colors by playing the game "Colors" on the Littlefinger website. Nov. 18 — Students will review letter names by watching the video Chicka Chicka Boom Boom on the Bookflix website. They will practice. Next they listen to the Phonics ABCDE Song (click on video) and discuss how learning the sounds of letters helps children learn to read. Finally, they play a Beginning Sounds game together on the SmartBoard. Second Trimester: Dec. 9 — Students will watch the United Streaming video Animals and Numbers and then practice counting by playing Counting on a Cloud Activities I and II as a group on the Smartboard. Jan, 6 — Because this is a new trimester, the schedule has flipped and I am now working with the afternoon kindergarten group. Therefore we repeated the Computer Lab Rules and Parts of a Computer activities listed above in Trimester I. Jan. 20 — Students watched the How to Log In Powerpoint slideshow which was changed to reflect the new procedure on the laptops. Then they were given Log In Cards which will help them remember how to spell the password and got on the laptops to practice the log in and log out procedure. They also learned how to plug in a mouse and headphones. Feb.3 — Students will review logging in and use of mouse and headphones. Then they will open up the drawing program Kidpix to practice drawing with the crayon, changing colors, inserting a textbox, and using the eraser. Feb. 17 — Students will watch ABC song videos from the Gamequarium Jr. site and then practice writing lower case and capital ABC by opening a Word Document. Mar. 3 — Students will be introduced to all the ways to do text in KidPix. They will practice writing their names and if time will decorate posters saying "No More Bullies" or "STOP Bullies". Mar. 17 — No school due to Spring Conferences Third Trimester: Mar. 31 — Students will practice putting Numbers in the Correct Order and then will practice counting on to locate numbered cars by playing the Bumper Counting_Cars_Game. Apr. 14 — Students will count sets and identify the number that matches by playing the Fishy Count Game. If there is time, they can also play a game where they listen to descriptive word to identify Which One. Apr. 28 — Practice identifying beginning sounds, rhyming words and reading vocabulary in Gus and Inky's Undersea Adventure online story. Next, they practice listening to and identifying beginning sounds by completing the Bear Wear online activity. May 12 — Students view the PBS Kids Story called Ruby Sings the Blues together as a whole group and then students may select any of the other stories in this site by selecting the link on the kindergarten page. May 25 — Students will visit the ABCya website. First they will click on the Kindergarten menu and then look at the “Let’s learn buttons” page together. Then students can select games of their choice. |
