Search this Site To enable the reader to search easily, all the pages and documents on this site are created in a searchable "PDF" format and you may wish to use the "Search Site" facility situated at the top right of all the pages, to search for a particular name etc within the whole site. Just enter the word you would like to search for and this will take you to a search page containing "Links" which will show you the documents containing that word on this site. Click on any of those links and they will open those documents in a new page. Then use the search facility on those pages to locate the name you are looking for. Search Individual Documents Alternatively, should you choose to navigate directly to a particular document, you may then use the search facility that opens with that document.
PDF means Portable Document Format, and is extensively used commercially to ensure that documents and images can be opened by anyone. To this end, many PC manufacturers include a "PDF Reader" as standard in the software they load on new machines. These Readers are many and various, but common ones include "Adobe Reader" and "Foxit Reader". If, in the unlikely event that you are unable to open one of the files here at Hickling History, you will need to download and install one of these free "Readers". I personally favour "Foxit Reader". It's a much smaller download than Adobe and is both very quick to load and extremely easy to use. I have included a link to "Foxit Reader" below, and as I say, it's Free to download and use.
Enter the name etc in the FIND search box and press enter or click on the (right facing) next arrow . Each time you click on this arrow, it will take you to the next instance of that name in the document.
A much better way of searching inside a document: Click on the small down triangle alongside the word FIND in the search box and select "Open a Full Search"; this opens a panel alongside the document. Enter the name in the "search for" box and click on search. This panel will then locate every instance of that word in the current document and show you a brief "overview" of the surrounding text. This makes searching much quicker, and by just left-clicking on the part you wish to see, you will automatically jump straight to that section of the document. Try it, it's really quick and very easy!
