The Harris-Intersil Amateur Radio Club thanks you for participating in
Field Day 2010 which was held at the
Grant Community Center (Grant Seafood Fest grounds)
in beautiful Grant-Valkaria, Florida
on Saturday & Sunday, June 26-27, 2010 from 2pm Saturday until 2pm Sunday
"ARRL Field Day is the most popular on-the-air operating event in amateur radio. On the fourth full weekend in June, tens of thousands of amateur radio operators gather for a public demonstration of our service. Field Day is part educational event, part operating event, part public relations event – and ALL about FUN!
Welcome to the official U.S.A. ARRL 2010 Amateur Radio Field Day Web Page for the Harris-Intersil Amateur Radio Club (HIARC) in the Melbourne/Palm Bay/Grant-Valkaria area, Florida. Our club call sign is K4HRS. We were glad to be able to to invite everyone: the public, present, and future amateur radio operators, any anyone even vaguely interested in hobby and emergency radio communications to HIARC Field Day 2010 toward the north end of the property at the intersection of Avenue C and 2nd Street. (Directions below.)Saturday, June 26, 2:00pm through Sunday, June 27, 2:00pm, 2010. We had a "Get on the Air" (GOTA) station set up for the public to try out in a low-pressure environment, a radiotelephone (voice) station, a Morse Code station, a Satellite station, a VHF station, and also some educational activities and food. There are some great tall trees and a 60+ foot light pole for antennas, and plenty of shelter for protection against the rains (which didn't come this year!). If you haven't operated in a while, come and brush up at the GOTA station. If you've never operated a radio, come by and see what all the fun is about! We'll be set up on Saturday morning, hopefully on the air by 2:00pm Saturday, June 26, and will operate for 24 hours until June 27 2:00pm the next day (Sunday) afternoon. Call in on 146.520 MHz simplex and we'll guide you in. Directions to the site: To get to the Grant Community Center, take U.S. 1 south from Valkaria Road to 1st Street. Turn west on 1st St. at the historic Grant Grocery Store. Go up the hill, then turn north on Avenue C. We'll be on the left in/near the big red building. The site is graciously provided by the Grant Community Club, a private, local civic organization that supports the community of Grant (now Grant-Valkaria) with a library, social and charitable activities, and scholarships. Their hallmark event, the all-volunteer run Grant Seafood Festival, is held every February, and benefits the community. The annual barbecue festival Q-Fest is also held on the grounds in September.
