Track Banquet Scheduled
Pancake Breakfast Slated for February 24
Soon outdoor track will begin . To meet the financial demands of the track team we are once again going to have a track fundraiser breakfast. Our track booster club president, Margaret Devenish, has negotiated with Ruby Tuesdays to have the breakfast from 7 until 9 a.m. on February 24, 2007 . Last year we did this for the first time and we did not know what to expect. What we found out was that we raised more than we anticipated and we had a blast doing it. The students made us proud by doing great job and the parents had fun getting to know one another.
The Huntsville High school track team will have a breakfast fundraiser at Ruby Tuesdays on Whitesburg drive. Tickets are $5. For your $5 ticket you will receive a delicious breakfast of:
2 Pancakes
1 sausage
2 scrambled eggs
Juice and Milk
The Huntsville High track team participates in both indoor and outdoor track. Last year a booster club was formed to help come up with ways to meet the needs of the Huntsville High school track team. The good news is that the track team is growing. But with growth come needs, like uniforms and equipment.
We need parents and track members (the kids) to help with this fundraiser. The parents and kids will work the breakfast by delivering food, bussing tables and seating people. Many customers will tip and the tips will go into a bucket toward the fundraiser. Ruby Tuesdays typically has 3 people including an adult at the door and 6 servers on each side. Worker/volunteers will need to be at Ruby Tuesdays by 6 a.m. for training. We have a sign that we will have in front of the restaurant to advertise the breakfast fundraiser. We can charge $6 at the door for anyone coming in for breakfast when they see our sign.
Please send me an e-mail to request tickets. To ensure that there will be no duplication of tickets please keep a list people that purchase tickets to the breakfast and sign the back of each ticket you sell. We need to sell 200-300 tickets. The track team will make $1,500 if we sell 300 tickets. We need to give Ruby Tuesdays a headcount on February 21st so they can estimate the food requirements.
If you want to contact me my phone, feel free to call at 885-0870(h) or 479-0870(cell). Upon request, I can email more copies of the tickets I create so you can print them out yourself. You can also help by posting the Track Breakfast Announcement all over town. Thanks.--Karen Kimbrough

Notes from the December 14 Booster Club Meeting
- Track team members should notify Coach Young if they CANNOT attend a meet. Otherwise he will count on them being there.
- Buses will not run for the indoor meets. Parents will meet at 7:30 of the day of the meet at HHS in order to carpool. City rules prohibit students from driving themselves to events outside of Madison County.
- It is cold inside the Celebration Arena in Priceville so dress accordingly.
- Fees for the indoor track season are $50 per participant. Please make checks payable to "HHS Track Booster Club". You may mail checks to Treasurer Cindy Streams at 3009 Hampton Cove Way or you may give checks to Coach Young.
- Uniforms will be provided. Some participants like to wear underarmour. Rules require matching undershirts therefore wear only black undershirts or no undershirt.
- The track team will hold another breakfast fund raiser on February 24 at the Airport Road Ruby Tuesday's.
An Explanation of Indoor Track
In Alabama, the indoor track season consists of five consecutive meets beginning the first week of January and ending in early February with the State Championships. All meets are held in Priceville at the Celebration Arena, a horse show facility. The track is an old wooden structure with banked turns.
The four regular season meets have two divisions, Junior High and Varsity. Junior High is limited to grades 7-9 while Varsity is open to any grade. Competition is between all schools without regard to their AHSAA size rating (e.g. 4A, 5A, 6A...). Schools from other states are also allowed to compete.
The State Meet has no Junior High competition and schools compete in three size categories: 1A-4A, 5A, and 6A. After four seasons in 5A, Huntsville High is now 6A again. There is no qualifying meet for the state meet and only Alabama schools may participate.
In most meets only three athletes from the same school can enter each event. At the state meet, only two athletes from the same school may enter the same event. A single athlete can compete in no more than four events at each meet, including relays. In all events, the top six finishers score points for their team as follows: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.
