University of Maryland Professional Schools

Students from the University of Maryland Schools of Social Work, Nursing, and Medicine in Baltimore are planning a series of events to take place on the campus during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week to complement the city-wide events.  Currently, the following events are planned:

Monday, November 14th at 12:15 in the SMC Student Center (Rm 349 on the 3rd floor)
    A Panel on Veterans and Homelessness sponsored by the Coalition for Military Awareness. A panel of service providers and people experiencing homelessness will discuss the reality of veterans experiencing homelessness after the return from serving.  Pizza lunch will be provided 
 
Friday, November 18th - All Day
     Students are pledging to fast for the day, starting with lunch, in solidarity and support for those who experience food insecurity.  Students will break their 24 hour fast at A Bench is Not a Bed. 
 
All Week
    Students are organizing a sleeping bag and winter goods drive to gather donations that will be distributed to people experiencing homelessness
