Dear Parents and Guardians,                                                                                    2009-2010

Your child cannot learn to the best of their ability if they are sick or not feeling well.  Illness can also spread quickly from one student to another, possibly resulting in more students being absent from school.  If your child becomes ill, the following guidelines have been established for you to decide when your ill child should stay home from school:

•    FEVER: of 99.9 degrees Fahrenheit or higher (ANYTIME within the past 24 Hours)

•    FLU SYMTOMS: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, and often diarrhea and vomiting

•    DIARRHEA; (ANYTIME within the past 24 hours)

•    VOMITING; (ANYTIME within the past 24 hours)

•    STREP THROAT: (Through Health Care Provider test confirmation)  Student may return to school, only after they have completed a 24 hour course of antibiotics and are fever-free for over 24 hours

•    SUSPECTED STREP THROAT; If you are awaiting the results of your child’s overnight Strep Test culture reading, they may only return to school after you have received negative results from your health care provider, or if positive, after a completed course of antibiotics and are fever-free for over 24 hours.

•    COLD SYMPTOMS: Excessive runny nose, sneezing, persistent coughing, and/or body aches and malaise

•    EYES: that are reddened, itchy, and/or crusty with yellowish drainage

Please call the School Office to advise us of your child’s illness and absence as soon as possible.  You may call at any hour and leave a message.  The Health Office will contact you if you have not informed us of your child’s absence, as we need to account for ALL our students during school hours.

Please kindly adhere to these above guidelines, which will help ensure your child receiving the adequate rest and a healthy recovery from their illness, thus ensuring a well-rested and healthy student who is at their best to learn.

The Center for Disease Control has stated that 20 seconds of vigorous hand washing with soap and water, is our biggest defense against spreading communicable disease.  Saying two Hail Mary’s while you wash is equivalent to 20 seconds.  Please promote good hand washing in your homes.

We thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your children.  Should you have and questions or concerns please stop by or call.

Be Well!
