Technology in the Class

Google Docs:  Google Docs allow students access to computer technology tools that can be extremely useful in the classroom, free of charge.  Students can use Google Docs to create spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (Powerpoint), or word documents.  These documents can then be shared and edited with others if working on a project with many.  Google Docs is one of many Google tools that can be useful in the classroom.

Blogs:  A blog is a website usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries about events, thoughts, etc. and can include pictures and video.  In the classroom setting I would have a class blog where students could post their comments about class topics, etc. covered that day.  I would also encourage students to keep a blog of their own where they could reflect, create, etc.  Blogger is a free blog hosting site.

Digital Cameras:  The possibilities for using digital cameras in the classroom are many and can include even the youngest students.  (Click here for some examples of uses).   Digital cameras are easy to use and allow for quick transfer of pictures to the computer where they can be used to create projects, add to a blog or add to a picture hosting site.  Using digital cameras in the classroom makes exploring a certain topic more fun and engaging for the student.

Webquests:  WebQuests are student-centered adventures that center on a specific topic and allow the student to explore the internet for information.  WebQuests include the links appropriate for the student to research.  They usually have an introduction, a proce
ss, a task, a list of resources, a conclusion and an evaluation.  They are great for students because they make learning about the s pecific topic fun and exciting.  To check out a webquest, click here.
