I was born in Lansing, MI in 1985 and went through Waverly Community Schools just outside of the city. In high school, I played tennis, softball, performed in school plays, and joined a few clubs including the art club. My favorite classes were my music classes and AP English. After graduation in 2003, I attended Lansing Community College for two years, taking many different classes because I really was not sure what I wanted to do. I contemplated zoology, environmental science, English, music, art...the list goes on!
I then transferred to Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, MI) and plan on graduating in 2008 from the school of Education. I am majoring in English and minoring in political science. I am content with my choices for teaching certification because I have always been a huge fan of literature, poetry, and writing, and I have more recently become very interested in US and world politics. I figured studying it at a university would be the best way for me to learn more about it.
I have many interests; first and foremost is music. I love listening to it (I love the Clash and I think Bob Dylan is a brilliant poet) and playing it. I am really into post-apocalyptic books and films. I also enjoy drawing, astonomy and traveling. Also, lately I have become more and more interested in philosophy and I tend to be quite open-minded.
I have always wanted to make a difference in the world. However cliche that may sound, it is true. I think there are many ways people can achieve that, and I always thought of teaching as an excellent example. I hold high hopes (as well as worries) for the future. I hope to become a successful teacher and learner in the classroom and I look forward to meeting, interacting, and influencing the children of our future.
