In collaboration with Laura Hyatt, I conducted greenhouse experiments on the invasive plant Alliaria petiolata (garlic mustard). Our studies used modified Johnson's fertilizer solutions to test the response of garlic mustard to ratios of nitrate and ammonium, and varying concentrations of total nitrogen. Our findings suggest that garlic mustards "ambidextrous" nitrogen uptake and high affinity for nitrogen aid in this species' invasiveness. |
