The Volcano Erebus, is located in Ross Island, Antarctica. It is a Stratovolcano and its active . The last time it had a major eruption was in 1991. It was in discovered January 27, 1841 by a British explorer, James C. Ross. He named one of two of his ships after Mt. Erebus. The height of this volcano is 3,794 meters. Mt. Erebus is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Mt. Erebus has a latitude of 77 degrees 32 minutes south, and a longitude of 167 degrees 10 minutes east. The First Ascent was in 1908 (to crater rim), by members of Ernest Shackleton's expedition. The average Winter temperater is approx.-50 degrees Celsius, and the average Summer temperater is approx.-20 degrees Celsius.
