5.0 out of 5 stars This Rookie Swings for the Fence, August 17, 2011

By M. Vogt "Tico" (Kentucky USA)

This is Mike Due's first "at bat." As a fan of the genre and an acquaintance of the author, I read this book as a favor and expected to be able to say "good first try, keep swinging - kid." I can't say that "Of Honor And Deceit" by Mike Due.

This book reads like the author is a veteran player with four or five books under his belt. It honestly is a great read. The dialogue and descriptions are well balanced and well paced. The suspense is credible, as are the unexpected turns of plot. The plot is crafted so that the twists and turns are easy to follow, yet there are real surprises - hard to do and quite clever. The characters are well developed and believable so that I cared about them - or was suspicious of them, or hated them - or was surprised by them.

Quibbles: There were some opportunities to add a little more action that would enhance the plot and open some opportunities to develop the theme a little more. But these are quibbles from the dugout that would make a fine achievement only marginally better.

Ultimately this is a book about ethics, about some of the hard questions in life. Mike Due makes his point without preaching and leaves the reader to ponder some challenging but very necessary questions after a fun read.

My recommendation is: Try it, you'll like it! His next book will cost you four times the price. This is a home run.

4.0 out of 5 stars review of the book "Of Honor And Deceit" by Mike Due, April 8, 2011

The book" Of Honor And Deceit" by Mike Due, was a very good read. The story and the characters were believable and real. The author didn't waste any time getting my interest and keeping it through the entire book. The story centered around a new ideal of a terrorist plot to not kill people, but to render them helpless. There is somewhat of a moral dilemma intertwined with the plot that flows well with the characters and the story. He (the author) also tells the story in a way that's easy to understand and follow but not so easy that I had it ALL figured out before the very end. It was enjoyable and definitely worth the time spent reading it. I'm looking forward to his next book.
