The emergence of perception, the sensation of perceiving, is a threefold process that takes the form of a gradual awakening as the tide of experience settles into consciousness. 1. Being-in-the-World The first step that Dasein takes is in representing the world, as detected by its senses, within itself. Entities, as explained by the Philosopher, are defined by the manner in which they are created and retrieved. As they are created and retrieved according to their inter-relations with other Entities, the representation of the world in which Dasein lives is relative to all that it can sense. Thus, the Being of all Entities is the Being of Being-in-the-World. There is nothing more than this in the Interpretations of Dasein; no aeterna veritas, no mathematical absolute, no metaphysical foundation. Only in this inter-dependency of Being can one say a thing "is". There is no Being of the without. As Dasein is functioning, the quality of Being-in-the-World makes manifest the sense of coherency, the natural properties of the Entities that surround us, the Being of the world. Everything Is something, it is itself to be sure, yet this Being is taken from the material inter-relations of the Entities within the instance. In the beginning there is the World. 2. Making-Present of the Potentiality-for-Being Next, Dasein temporalizes each Entity, then brings it back to the present. Being-in-the-World is now no longer the Being in a no-when, but Being in a Now that is to become a Now-to-be and thence a Now-that-is and lastly a Now-that-was. Anticipation alone engenders a sensation of what is to become which contributes to the sense of coherency provided by the Being-in-the-World for this world is not static. The Making-Present brings a perception of the flow of time to the sense of Being for Dasein, the sensation of a sequence of Nows that extends from its own past into its own future. The two preceding modes of perception are common to many replicators on Earth; though the quality of these perceptions varies greatly from species to species. It is important to see that both the Being and the Temporality of Entities are relative in their ontogeny; Being is relative to the Being of others, Temporality is relative to other time states. 3. Being alongside- and before- Dasein Finally, built upon the preceding foundation of awareness, is the step that amongst the replicators of this planet humans alone can perform; the sensation of "being aware that one is thinking". To think of the thing one must bring it before oneself, which requires two functions. First, the Entity of Self, as a Star Entity, can make universal associations with the Entity Memories of the World, thus relating and defining all that it may perceive, either directly or slightly-indirectly, to itself. The formation of a Star Entity leads to what one might call a "mindset", a way of thinking born out of habitual functioning, and this is what most instances of Dasein do in order to mutually define their Entities of Self and the Entities of the World. Thus, to think of a thing of the World it is always cognized in relation to the Self, and to think of the Self it is cognized in relation to the World. This process is simply an emergence of Being-in-the-World as described above, and serves only to extend and incorporate the Self into the definition of Being. However, this does lead to an appreciable shift in perception, for the World is now no longer "there", observed and distant, unfathomable, but "here", alongside Dasein. Language is the gate to creation of the Entity of Self, and is a prerequisite for this emergence; only when Dasein can communicate and act with the They can the actions of its functioning be reflected back into itself as an Entity of Self. Language, in its execution, gives us the second, associated, step; bringing Dasein before observation, before itself. Earlier, we saw how in the frontal cortex of the brain Dasein performs Derivative Interpretations that Anticipate how its Potential actions and speech may affect the World and the They; thus by Anticipating the Potential of the Self, Dasein can present itself before the World and the They for judgement as its own function may reckon. Just as the Being of all Entities is relative, so once The Entity of Self is recognised not as an Entity but as a function within the function of Dasein (since it is representative of that function), the Being-in-the-World of all Entities becomes furthermore a Being-before-Dasein. The Entity of Self cannot interrogate or present or Interpret in any manner another Entity of Dasein, but in being changed itself, it relatively changes the quality of all else it is related to, and as a Star Entity this is tantamount to a change in perception of the World. The Philosopher says, "We have now pointed out how those modes of Being-in-the-world which are constitutive for knowing the world are interconnected in their foundations; this makes it plain that in knowing, Dasein achieves a new status of Being towards a world which has already been discovered in Dasein itself. The new possibility of Being can develop itself autonomously; it can become a task to be accomplished, and as scientific knowledge it can take over the guidance for Being-in-the-world." Being and Time, H.62 The Being of all Entities is firstly their Being relative to the Being of others, secondly their Being in a Now, Now-to-be or Now-that-was, and finally their Being-before-Dasein; Being beheld by the inquirer.
