Functional Implementation One B - The model as Interpretation

Below is a largely complete schematic representation of a generalised function of Dasein.  Red lines denote Interpretation, black lines denote a flow of information that could be Regulated Interpretation, but could also be hard-wired passing functions.  The boxes show key points in the progression of Entities, but, and certainly in the human brain, such clearly distinctive regions of Entities would be hard to pinpoint.

The declarative memory system is not shown on this picture, its reciprocal connections being too numerous, ubiquitous and liable to change to be meaningful to add.  We shall see how that relates to Interpretative regulation on the next page.

Commentary

The schematic clearly shows the demarcation between sense and action that is represented both anatomically and functionally within the brain.  Four senses are shown, but there could be less or more.  The quality and number of senses would then accordingly alter the number of Derivative Entity Interpretations and Convergence Interpretations.  These two Interpretations, though shown separated and sequentially here, may be performed as one, or merged in some way.  The Linguistic Now and Potentiality are shown as an offshoot of the generalised Entity Now and Potentiality only for clarity and to mirror the apparent distinction in the brain, again, they could be largely integrated.

Problems of a definitive Dasein

Throughout this inquiry I have tried to present as general as possible an instance of Dasein for consideration.  But as one can gather from the menagerie of humans on the Earth, in addition to countless pre-sentient species, and the selection of  possibilities for variation encountered here, and this cannot be overstressed, there is no single way to perform Dasein.

  • One might Anticipate each sense individually, before sensory convergence.
  • One might remove the linguistic or derivative Anticipatory functions altogether, or merge them.
  • The relative power or interconnectivity of any one Interpretation can be modified in a theoretically unlimited manner.
  • Action can take many, many forms, as can the body which Dasein inhabits, all affecting the manner in which Dasein interacts with the World.
  • The speed with which Dasein is executed can be changed, the constituent base parts can be transistors or neurons.

In this diagram, I hope to show what, at the moment in our understanding of sentient life, represents the basic computational procedure, the minimum requirement by which the only sentience known to us, that of Homo sapiens, may be recreated mechanically.  Yet, it is not complete, on the next page we shall see how the declarative memory system works to provide feedback and guide Interpretation.
