Given the mechanisms of information flow through the Entities described, and the establishment of relative Subjects and Objects by the function of relative Dominance (to be completed), we shall see how these functions apply to the Entity of Self, and thusly how Perception arises within Dasein. As we have seen already, Dasein, by virtue of its operation within the World alongside the They, creates an Entity of Self that is a representation of the function of Dasein as an Entity within that function. Since the Entity of Self is an Entity complex, and a Star complex at that, and the source of all Potentialities-for-Action of the Self, it fulfils all criteria for a Subject Entity, and does so, practically speaking, almost all the time. So in the observation of any Thing of the World, Dasein has a good chance of producing stable Activation of Entities representative of that Thing alongside stable Activation of the Entity of Self. Since the Entity of Self will, in most cases, be Dominant, the Entity of Self assumes the role of relative Subject, the Entity of Thing the role of Object. This is Subjective Perception. Here, Entity A, in being Activated alongside the Subject Entity of Self (SEoS), becomes a relative Object. Note that the paths of Activation are, in theoretical sense, irrelevant since the Entity of Self must be related, directly or indirectly, to every possible Entity. Firstly because the EoS is the relative centre of the World as represented by the fabric of Entities within Dasein, and secondly, as we shall presently see, an Entity that cannot be related to the EoS cannot be Perceived. Thus, whether Entity A is relatively "close" or "far" from the EoS, the stable Activation of both Entities shall result in the subsequent Activation of intermediate pathways and thus reciprocal Activation of the Entities (or Entity complexes) themselves. In being Dominant in this case, the EoS is responsible for greater Activation of Entity A than vica versa, and so establishes itself as the Subject to the Object of Entity A. Subjective Perception The mechanism above is a combination of functions we have already encountered, but the emergent function is that of the simplest form of Perception; Subjective Perception. In achieving Activation alongside the SEoS, an Entity is cast as Being-in-the-World alongside the SEoS Pre-Subjective Perception Summary << Previous Next >> Created 31st July 2009 Revised 31st July 2009 |
