The boys soccer A Team played UA Hastings Wednesday evening and came away with a 1 - 0 victory.  Our defense held off Hastings' efforts to secure a shut-out; the team's 6th shut-out of the season.  Anchored by Anthony Jones as sweeper, defenders Kole Smrecansky, Chris Yeager, and Kyle Fallon only allowed the ball to reach our keeper 4 times during the entire match.  Our single goal came from a corner kick by captain Zach Cowen and was sent into the back of the net by Chris Yeager.  The boys soccer teams ends its regular season with an impressive 10 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.  They will play their first match in the post-season tournament Saturday against Worthington Christian.  Be certain to wish your school's boys soccer team the best heading into their tournament.

Our boys soccer teams played Weaver last night.  The B Team had a tough match that ended in a loss.  Not a single player on our team, though, gave up or even showed signs of being discouraged.  They continued to work hard as a team and represented our school with pride.  Coach Jones and Coach Hall are extremely proud of their performance and efforts.  The boys soccer A Team continued its winning ways by beating Weaver 2 - 0, which improved its record to an incredible 8 wins, 1 loss, and 0 ties.  With a first half assist by captain Zach Cowen, Tyler Porter scored the first of his two goals for the evening.  In addition, our team's defense held strong, even with three of its starters out sick, and maintained yet another shut-out.  Our soccer teams play again on Wednesday, at home, when they face UA Jones.  Well done Panthers!

September 24, 2009:

Last night, our boys soccer A Team beat Memorial by a final score of 3 - 1 to extend their record to 7 wins, 1 loss, and 0 ties.  The first half ended at 0 - 0, but our men came out in the 2nd half and dominated the play on the pitch.  This victory was an overall team effort.  In particular, though, our defense continued to hold strong with exceptional play, especially during the 2nd half, from CJ Martin, Kole Smrecansky, Kyle Fallon, Brody Rudolf, and Anthony Jones.  Following that match, our boys soccer B Team had a rough start and gave up 2 quick goals during the first few minutes of their match.  After a couple adjustments, our team settled down and prevented Memorial from scoring any additional goals the remainder of the match.  While the team lost a tough match by a score of 0 - 2, exceptional play was demonstrated by Evan Jones, Ryan Leeka, Ricky Galvan, and goal keeper Cameron Orth.  Both boys soccer teams play again on Monday at Weaver and will be introduced at Darby's stadium between Saturday's JVA and Varsity soccer matches.  Well done Panthers!

This past Saturday, our boys soccer A Team experienced its first loss of the season when it traveled to Grandview.  The 0 - 1 final score was a reflection of an exciting match.  While our young men had almost twice as many shots on goal compared to Grandview, we could not convert any into goals.  Tyler Porter and Josh Alecusan had an exceptional match, while Anthony Jones made a come-from-behind stop of a breakaway.  Both boys soccer teams' next match will be against Memorial this Wednesday at home.
