Brian Hennessy was on Bougainville Island (now part of Papua New Guinea) in 1971, when he saw something flying overhead. The creature seemed "prehistoric," or that was the feeling he got from looking at the pterosaur-like creature.
Decades later, Hennessy was talking with his brother-in-law and mentioned the sighting. This eventually resulted in contact with Jonathan Whitcomb, author of Searching for Ropens. Whitcomb interviewed Hennessy by email and became convinced that the Australian had seen a ropen. When the eyewitness's simple sketch was completed, it showed great similarity to the Duane Hodgkinson's sketch of the "pterodactyl" of Finschhafen (1944).
Could Hennessy have hallucinated the creature? Could he have suffered from some kind of mental condition that caused him to think that he saw a pterosaur? Not likely, considering that he is a professional psychologist who works for a medical university.
