Helderberg Soccer Club provides the opportunity for children to learn the game of soccer outside of the regular school setting.
Costs: Your initial Registration Fee of $60.00 pays for your child to be an official member of the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL), Insurance to cover over and above your families insurance or to provide insurance if you do not have insurance for injurys on the field. This also pays for the Spring League and one tournament if your coach wants to participate in one. Your registration is good until 8/1/2010 when CDYSL starts registering for the next year. We try to encourage the children to play year round so that the skills they learn in the fall are not forgotten. If there is enough interest from your team, we encourage you to play in an indoor session. There is an additional fee explained below to pay for the use of the indoor field. This fee is divided among the team members and generally runs in the neighborhood of $65 – $85 depending on the number of players on your team. The more players, the lower the cost. Last, we will be ordering uniforms as teams are required to have matching attire. We try our best to keep this cost as low as possible. Generally between $30 and $45 for a shirt, shorts and socks. As the league grows, we may entertain the idea of “buying back” used uniforms and allowing new players to purchase used uniforms in an effort to recycle and help with costs. However, because we are just starting out, this years uniforms will be new. $60.00 registration + $35.00 estimated uniform cost = $95.00 +$75.00 approximate indoor session fee if you want to participate $170.00 approximate annual cost
About Indoor Soccer: Afrims Soccer Complex in Colonie and Latham in conjunction with CDYSL (Capital District Youth Soccer League) provide indoor soccer space and organize leagues for all age groups to play over 3 sessions from November through April.
Indoor soccer is different from regular field soccer because you play on a smaller field with fewer players on the field at a time. There is no off sides and your child is guaranteed to touch the ball a lot. Youth really enjoy the faster pace of the game and they will learn a tremendous amount in a very short time. U8 generally play 4 players vs 4 players, U10 play 6 vs 6 all others play 8 vs 8.
If your child joins a team, that team may choose to play in an indoor session. Each session lasts 8 weeks. Your team will play 8 games – 1 per week. Sessions Are: Winter 1 Nov.-Dec. Winter 2 Jan.-Feb. Winter 3 Mar.-Apr.
Afrims charges a flat fee for your team to be put on the roster, covered by their insurance, to pay for referee's and for the use of the facilities. U8 fee is $425.00/team, U10 is $750 all others are $850. This fee is split between the team members – so if there are 10 players on the U12 team, your cost will be 85.00 to play the indoor session. Game nights for your team will typically be the same each week and generally the first day listed. When a second day is listed that is usually reserved for makeup games; however, there are instances when they may have to schedule your game on a different day. Game times will vary from week to week. Afrims has set the following days for each age group.
2009 / 2010 LEAGUE PLAY DAYS
Regular League Play: Once the weather warrants, your team will begin practicing outdoors probably sometime in March. Your coach will decide how often you will practice, but you can expect at least one practice per week in Berne or Knox. Games begin the last week of April or the first week of May and run through June. Your team will generally play 2 games per week and CDYSL tries to keep the schedule as regular as possible.
½ of your games will be played in Berne the other half will be played away. The farthest game last year was in Valatia. Others were in Catskill, East Greenbush, Ravena, the remainder were in surrounding towns. Talk to the other players on your team to find out who is available on what days for carpooling.
In the past Helderberg Coaches have tried to work around little league schedules as much as possible, so playing both sports is possible. For older players, track meets for modified age are finished by mid May so there is only a couple of weeks of overlap there. School baseball would be more difficult to fit in although not impossible if there are enough players to cover if you must miss the week day games.
Helderberg Soccer Club wants to encourage soccer as a fun team sport and we understand that children will want to experience other activites in the spring as well. If there are plenty of players on the team who do not have conflicts, a couple of players who have other commitments can be covered. However, we do commit to the league and the other teams in the league to play the games that are scheduled. It is unfair to those teams and to your fellow players if we are forced to forfeit often because we don't have enough players. For U8, U10, and U12 teams, the decision might be made to wait and join CDYSL's Fall league. This would not interfere with any other group sports such as Little League, Helderberg Basketball, or Track. The Fall League plays all of their games in Bethlehem tournament style on Sunday Afternoons. The Fall session runs from September thru October. |
