It is our firm belief that just because children are reading on their own they should not be deprived of beautiful art. Our story anthologies are "our" chapter books, and one read of one story will prove that the concepts, and content are inline if not superior to much of what is offered in the young adult category. It is obvious also that the art engages young minds. An illustrated book, at least those published by Barefoot, is not an indication of lessened content. Little Leap forward launched this season as the first in our soon to grow "young adult fiction" category - while in a standard "chapter book format" it is not lacking in illustration. It is as rich as any Barefoot book I have seen! Our story anthologies are collection of short stories - many widely told throughout the world for generations. The stories each have all the components of strong literature, villians, victims, irony, lesson, truth, fantasy. These stories are rich with strong vocabulary that is not easily matched in mainstream children's or young adult publishing.
