It is evident that there are a number of conflicts due to competing agendas in Higher Education and that some policy initiatives have, often unintended, deleterious impacts on aspects of Higher Education a particular policy does not address. For example there have undoubtedly been a number of conflicts at the institutional and individual level between research objectives and learning and teaching objectives and student funding policy has had the unintended consquence of reducing the number of mature students entering HE and has disadvantaged part-time students. This section will identify possible clashes of agendas and objectives in the various discussion areas and aid the development of 'joined up' thinking. |
