Our New Extension

Building work started on our extension on Monday 30th March.

  1. 1 Week 1
    1. 1.1 Day 1 - 30th March - Foundations and soak-away dug.
    2. 1.2 Day 2 - Foundation concrete finished
    3. 1.3 Day 3 - Block-work and ready for floor
    4. 1.4 Day 4 - Floor concrete complete
    5. 1.5 Day 5 - 3rd April - Walls under construction
  2. 2 Week 2
    1. 2.1 Day 6 - 6th April - Window and door openings visible. Start removing render.
    2. 2.2 Day 7 - 7th April - Walls almost done added lintel to existing window(!) and re-build above.
    3. 2.3 Day 8 - 8th April - Render removed from Kitchen Window wall - Window has a lintel!
    4. 2.4 Day 9 - 9th April - Removed render from top floor at front - Installed window lintels and new tray for existing roof
  3. 3 Week 3
    1. 3.1 Day 10 - 14th April - Wall repairs finished and first layer of new rendering applied on kitchen and top floor front walls - Porch started (initialy in the wrong place!) - New roof supports started
    2. 3.2 Day 11 - 15th April - Porch nearly finished, roofing has been started - Outer layer of rendering applied to upper kitchen wall - First roof trusses in place
    3. 3.3 Day 12 - 16th April - Top layer of rendering around top floor done - base layer rendering above new section done - new roof trusses and soffit boards complete - two new windows installed
    4. 3.4 Day 13 - 17th April - Rendering complete on top floor - mended rubbish original plumbing - new soffits fitted - new door frame installed
  4. 4 Week 4
    1. 4.1 Days 14-16  - 20th-22nd April - New door fitted - rendering complete - some painting - new windows in original building - walls rearranged in old living room - stone cladding removed form fireplace
    2. 4.2 Days 17-18 -23rd / 24th April Wall knocked through to extension and RSJs fitted. Roof made weather-tight. Study walls completed and prepared for plastering.
  5. 5 Week 5
    1. 5.1 Days 17-21  - 27th April to 1st May. Mostly indoor work now. Plastering study and Sitting room. Knocked door through to kitchen. Roof tiling and porch completed. Floor concrete laid in extended area. utility and shower room stud-work installed. Electrical and plumbing fit. We did some exterior painting!
  6. 6 Week 6
    1. 6.1 Days 22-25  - 5th to 9th May.  Highlights this week - Drainage installed (and existing updated). Utility and shower rooms partitioned, Sitting room plastered and door broken through to kitchen. Coving to sitting room and study.
  7. 7 Week 7
    1. 7.1 Days 26-30  - 11th to 15th May.  Tarmac drive removed and replaced with gravel. New slabs to side of house, and front door. Utility, shower, hall and old bathroom plastered. Lots of woodwork - skirting boards, doors etc.
  8. 8 Week 8
    1. 8.1 Days 22-25  - 18th to 22nd May.  Decorating!! William and Amanda decorated sitting room and study, and carpet installed at end of week. Furniture returned. Some outside painting and tiling inside. Plumbers and electricians completed final connections. Utility and shower room fitting out completed. Fireplace built.
