Direct Action at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, May, 2001

Vandenberg Air Force Base is the headquarters for both US counter-insurgency in Columbia and the

Star Wars / Strategic Defense Initiative. Organized mostly by the Direct Action Network, protesters descended upon the base in May, 2000 for a planned

civil disobedience. Those who got arrested crossed the property line onto the base and were taken away

voluntarily.   The military and police presence was very intense as they were armed with riot gear & numerous attack dogs.   At one point during the rally, the authorities lowered a helicopter just above the crowd, so that the speakers could not be heard.   The struggle continues.
