My favorite primate websites, why not?
Primates have always fascinated me. When I go to the zoo, I tend to make a beeline for the gorillas or orangutans where I sit for at least 20 minutes and then on to the next primate where I do the same thing. I heard a great podcast from Radio Lab on NPR where they talked about morality. One of the stories was about how chimpanzees share. It was amazing! Here's what happened. A researcher studying a group of chimps in an enclosure dropped a particularly appetizing branch near one of the younger females in the group. At first you hear the younger chimps arguing over the morsel, but suddenly the arguing stops as the alpha member approaches.
Apparently the chimps then took the branch to an enclosure where the elders of the group divided up the branch so that each member of the group had a piece. No fighting. No violence. They worked out a fair solution so that everyone had a piece. I thought that was great, and that is just one of the reasons I love primates.
