Many, many thanks to Susan Grunder for once again putting together a fantastic social event for our team. (And, of course, thanks to Carmen and Tim Smith and all others who helped.) Martha Barber made those beautiful flower arrangements that really gave a special feel to the event! Congratulations to ALL our swimmers and divers ~ you worked hard, had fun, supported each other, and had a great season. Special congrats to those who earned Most Improved, Rookie of the Year, Moran, and Coaches Awards: click here. Check your folders throughout August -- your end-of-season summary will be printed out and distributed soon; any extra ribbons or awards will be placed there too. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Congrats to our four swimmers who made it to All Stars! Brooke Smith (fly), Alex DeSatnick (free, IM), Joel Desatnick (breast, fly), Ben Lambert (free, fly) Congratulations, Seahawks! Divisional results are now online. There were 53 personal best times today! Many, many thanks to all the great parents who stood out in the hot sun today to support our team. We'll see you all Sunday at 5pm at the Hayfield Elementary School cafeteria for fun and food.
CONGRATS TO THE DIVE TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR DIVISION! AWESOME! Divisionals are at Truro map/directions Meet is longer than regular A meets because there are 2 heats for every event, and the meet includes IMs. Order of events this year starts with Free, Back, Breast, Fly, IM (Look for email soon with more details) 7/22/2009 ~ Here's the list of Hayfield swimmers entered in the Divisionals meet on Saturday: entries (Swimmers who were alternates can check to see if they are now entered in the meet.) 7/21/2009 ~ Announcing - the banquet will be at 5pm (correction) Sunday in the cafeteria of Hayfield Elementary. It's a potluck -- last name A-L please bring main dish; M-Z bring sides. Families please bring your own beverages (non-alcoholic since we're at the school). All else will be provided. Many hard-working parents put in a LOT of time and energy to pull this off. What a bonus that so many of our swimmers had fast swims and dropped their times. results Next up: Divisionals selections (Tuesday and Wednesday) Divisionals seeding meeting (Wednesday evening) Regular practice schedule through Wednesday Thursday and Friday practice for Divisionals swimmers (optional for other swimmers) Banquet is Sunday evening Mini hawks regular schedule this week - special practice on Friday for last day ("fun races" and snacks) Mini Hawks also are invited to the banquet on Sunday!!! Congrats to the guys who swam at the All Star Relay meet Wednesday! (See new video links on the left!) The boys 11-12 free relay ~ Michael Murray, Connor McLaren, Zack Koons and Ben Lambert ~ fnished 17th and improved their time to 1:00.53. The boys mixed-age relay ~ Ben Lambert, Alex DeSatnick, Joel Desatnick, and Jack Harris ~ finished 10th overall!!!! They also dropped their time and set another new team record: 1:59.54 Minihawks - "Lollipop" Meet is after Divisionals this year - more info Pep Rally 7/17/09 - Backwards swim meet, dunk tank & scary costumes - come at 6pm for pizza (please bring side dishes) more info Here's the list of swimmers who are entered in the IM Invitational - IM List (Please check this list to see who is entered in the IM meet. The IM meet is 7/20/09 at Home. ) Can you believe we're approaching the end of the season!?!? This is the last full week of regular practice. After Saturday's "A" meet at home, our final big meet is Divisionals on the following Saturday (the 25th). The entry lists for Divisionals will be decided by Wednesday, the 22nd; practice that week will be mandatory for Divisionals swimmers and optional for all others. Friday is our Fiesta Pep Rally with make-your-own tacos. Come at 6:15pm for dinner and fun. There's a sign-up sheet at the pool to bring: meat, taco shells, rice, beans, cheese, salsa, chips, sour cream, guacamole, fruit, or dessert. Thanks for your help! 7/8/2009 ~ What an exciting relay carnival -- congrats to all the swimmers for the 3rd-place overall win. (Pictures) There was a lot of teamwork at that meet tonight! Big congratulations to the boys mixed-age relay for setting a new team record! Ben Lambert, Alex DeSatnick, Joel DeSatnick and Jack Harris swam the relay in 2:01.50; breaking the old record of 2:01.84 set in 1996 by Joe Knight, Joe Smolinske, Steve Skiano, and Marc Wergley. 7/7/2009 ~ Relay Carnival info -- see this list -- if your name is on the list, you're entered in the relay carnival. If you know you cannot make it to the meet Wednesday evening; please tell a coach ASAP (or send email to hayfieldswim@gmail.com) Thanks! Some details: the meet is at Rolling Forest. The meet starts at 6pm; HF warm-ups are at 5:45pm. Rolling Forest is near Daventry -- take Ffx Cnty Pkway to Rolling Rd, Turn Right on Rolling, take first right and then a left into neighborhood and pool. (detailed directions and map in link above) There's very little parking, so try to carpool and/or give yourself plenty of time to drop off swimmers and then park and walk. Plan to arrive around 5:15pm to be able to park and get swimmers in the water at 5:45pm 7/7/2009 ~ Another good meet with 41 personal best times! See Meet Results and a few Pictures. (Now, if we can just get everyone healthy!) 7/5/2009 ~ B Meet Monday at HOME. Minihawks will swim; swimmers arrive by 4:45pm for 5pm warm-ups; food donations welcome for the concession stand; volunteers needed to help set up (4:30pm), time, etc. Looking ahead: Wednesday is the Relay Carnival. 7/4/2009 ~ WHAT A MEET! Very close races; exciting finishes; even a tie for 1st place in one race! Congrats to Rolling Forest on a fantastic meet -- and congrats to the Hayfield Seahawks for a 205-197 victory. Coming attractions: Pep Rally Friday 6:15pm - Red, White & Blue theme -- prizes for best super-hero (you can make up your own super hero!) and most patriotic costumes! Bring 'breakfast for dinner.' Saturday 7/4/09 - Meet with Rolling Forest -- swimmers arrive by 7:45 for 8am warm-ups; meet starts at 9am; family fun day at the pool in the afternoon with games, food, prizes, & more. The Minihawks will swim just before the start of the meet (Minihawks: 5:50pm, meet starts 6pm). Want an easy way to help? Sign up to bring ice, baked goods, fruit, and other food items for the concession stand. Any help is greatly appreciated! The meet starts at 6pm, our warm-ups will be at 5:30, please arrive at Waynewood no later than 5:20pm, caravan will meet at Hayfield around 4:45pm. Coaches will have sign-up sheets at practice on Monday morning for the swimmers. PLEASE NOTE: Please fill out an AVAILABILITY FORM (available here, and in a folder at the pool). RETURN THE FORM TO THE FOLDER IN THE BINS BY THE GUARD HOUSE - one folder holds blank forms, the other folder is for completed forms. This helps coaches plan for A meets; all swim families can help by completing a form to let us know of planned absences. 6/17/2009 ~ Our first Pep Rally is this Friday at 6:15 pm at the pool (more info here) ! Also - we need food! Can you donate something for the concession stand at the meet this Saturday morning? There's a sign-up sheet on the team bulletin board at the pool - we can use fruit, bagels, donuts, Velveeta, salsa, ICE, and more.
