The next cross country in the Today’s Runner Series is on 13th December in Bourne Wood. Our hosts (Farnham Runners) have provided both a route map and a few comments about the course, which you may find helpful.
Venue:
Bourne Wood is situated to the south of Farnham and is predominantly coniferous woodland situated with attractive areas of heath land. The sandy soil provides a good running surface. The race HQ address is Cricket Lane, Lower Bourne, Farnham Surrey GU10 3PR
Please note the race start is approximately a 5 minute walk from the race HQ situated on the edge of the cricket green.
Directions:
(From Farnham): Head south along the A287 (Frensham Road), after approx. 1.2 miles bear left onto Old Frensham Road. The race HQ is in the Bourne Sports and Social Club on the edge of the cricket field. There is limited parking in the car park by the club but plentiful parking around the field on either Old Frensham Road or Dene Lane.
Something about the venue that you may not know: Bourne Wood is used frequently as a filming location. It has not only featured in a wide range of TV commercials, but also as a popular location for big budget feature films. The opening battle scene in the blockbuster 'Gladiator' was filmed at Bourne Wood as was Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince and The Wolf Man. So watch out for the film stars!
