The Hartbeespoort Dam
was constructed in 1925 with a capacity of 205 million cubic metres and
a shoreline – when full – of about 56 km. The dam and its
immediate surroundings is a major tourist attraction and it offers
magnificent opportunities for water activities, mountain sports and a
variety of other activities such as hiking, angling, yachting,
ballooning, hang-gliding, parasailing and abseiling.
