Kym Burton and Heather Holbert serve as the Secondary Literacy Coaches for Harrison County Schools.
Kym’s past teaching assignments include positions in Special Education, Title I, and Developmental Reading. She has been a classroom teacher in both Harrison and Kanawha counties. Kym’s office is located at Washington Irving Middle School. Along with WIMS, she also serves the literacy needs of Lumberport Middle School, Bridgeport High School, Lincoln High School, Robert C. Byrd High School, the Alternative Learning Center, and Pressley Ridge.
Heather Holbert is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, who taught secondary English, Development Reading, and Library Science before becoming a Literacy Coach. Her office is located in Mountaineer Middle School. Heather also assists Bridgeport Middle, South Harrison Middle School, Liberty High School, South Harrison High School, and the United Technical Center.
Both coaches seek to provide professional development opportunities that will assist classroom teachers in the delivery of Reading / English Language Arts instruction. In this facilitating role, they aim to assist schools and teachers in implementing relevant and applicable programs that coincide with the needs of Harrison County students. Kym and Heather see themselves as a support system to the hard working teachers in Harrison County, and are eager to assist in any way possible.
