It is about redefinition. **Happenings^= an event defined through spoken words, music and sound, movement and theater. True to the substance of happenings - exploring edges and definitions - several of the artists are beginning to establish collaborations with each other. Peculiar juxtapositions are developing. There are two consequences: A richer fabric of performance is developing already It is impossible to say with any certainty how the event will unfold. **Happening^= will truly be a unique exploration. Juxtaposing seemingly unrelated forms becomes another facet of the expansion of definition. Contemporary artist Rich Curtis, of Alabama, is developing a series of vocal sound compositions, "Sound Poems". They are extended vocal techniques that attempt to push the limits of the human voice. Rich Curtis has exhibited his work throughout the world. The collaboration Mirabai Bellydance, will perform experimental movement studies based on the study of Middle Eastern dance and fused with elements of modern dance, jazz, hip hop, various world dance inspiration, and usage of props." http://mirabaibellydance.com/index.html Nada--the group's name--is comprised of 3 drums and a tabla, a sitar, harmonium, and vocalists. It is a form of Bhakti Yoga, calling the names of the Divine as vocal meditation. Audience members will be invited to join in the singing and/or dancing as everyone moves into open heartedness. Jim Pfitzer is a storyteller and writer best known for personal stories of adventures and mishaps in the natural world. Jim has told stories coast to coast, sharing his twisted perspectives on life, and never letting facts interfere with the truth. He appears frequently on WUTC, and has been called “old fashioned and avant-garde at the same time”. They began dancing together over 17 years ago and continue performing together. The "Undoctored Originals" is a jazz band that has worked extensively with spoken word artists; they rephrase the character of traditional jazz by notplaying "standards" -- no meticulous arrangements of the music, no songlists, no preset lyrics, no rehearsals, no safety net.
