HWCP - what we do

    HWCP - who we are
HWCP covers Hartcliffe and Withywood, two post-war housing estates on the southern periphery of Bristol, with a combined population of 18,700 people in 7,830 households. This represents 5% of Bristol’s total population and over a fifth of the population of Bristol’s priority neighbourhoods.

It is a limited company, with charitable status and is run by a board, the majority of whom are elected local residents.

It supports local people to get involved in what is happening in the area, gives them a voice and works together with local agencies and organisations, with the aim of making Hartcliffe and Withywood a better place to live and work in. It produces a quarterly newsletter wham!, the HWCP website and various other publications.

HWCP organises fun days at the CORE on Willmott Drive and Willmott Park. The Big P takes place on Wednesdays during the school holidays from 12pm-5pm.
HWCP administers the Dundry View Neighbourhood Partnership which covers Bishopsworth, Hartcliffe and Whitchurch Park wards, with a population of around 33,000 people.
HWCP manages the CATT community bus. Local residents can use the bus to access local shops and centres of activity such as Symes District Centre and Broadmead.
The @symes community building is managed by HWCP and offers meeting rooms, office space and pods used by a wide range of organisations including advice services, over-50s group and knitting group.  This fully accessible ‘green’ building is home to Hartcliffe Library, HWCP, HAWKS, Southern Arc and City of Bristol College.
History of HWCP - 1999 to present day
HWCP - Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Partnership - was started by local residents in 1998 to work together to improve the area. The organisation ran the successful Single Regeneration Budget 5 (SRB5) scheme from 1999-2006 and Neighbourhood Renewal scheme.
The work led to many changes in the area including the successful completion of the redevelopment of run-down semi-derelict Symes Avenue into a bustling district centre which opened officially in November 2007. Symes district centre now features a Morrisons superstore with cashpoint, large car park, row of shops including Iceland, post office, hairdressers, Boots the chemist, Greggs, Ladbrokes, council housing office plus the @symes community building.  For full details of the redevelopment see here.
