Dear Mock Trial Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) Tournament Competitors,
Congratulations! You’ve made the first cut on the arduous path to
the 2012 national championship tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota. We are honored to host the 2012 Hamilton
Opening Round Championship Series in the Butler County Justice Center in
downtown Hamilton. For those of you new to the area, Miami University is
approximately ten miles “up the road” in the quaint red-bricked midwestern town
of Oxford where the 16,000 Miami students outnumber the 10,000 residents.
Though the Miami Mock Trial Program is housed in the Farmer School
of Business Administration, we draw from all majors across campus. To that end, on behalf of Miami University, I
sincerely welcome you to our county seat and to the 2012 Hamilton ORCS.
Hosting a tournament and running a mock trial program is never a
singular accomplishment. I owe
particular thanks to Alan Cook, a Miami Mock Trial alumnus, who volunteers each
year to be the ORCS Tournament Administrator and Director. This tournament is his accomplishment and
could not succeed without his work and commitment. He is ably assisted by Miami mock trial alumnus
Katie Tilenni who comes from Cleveland each year to assist. Of course, this tournament is not even
possible but for Judge Dan Haughey and the Butler County Court of Common Pleas
and Hamilton Municipal Court judges who graciously allow us to use the
facility.
Finally, this tournament and the Miami Mock Trial Program could not
exist without the dedicated commitment of the Miami University coaching staff:
my special thanks and deep appreciation go to—Dan Haughey, Neal and Missi
Schuett, Jade Smarda, and Laura Tholke.
Good luck; enjoy the tournament; and it is
truly our pleasure to host you.
Best Wishes,
Daniel J. Herron Director, Miami University Mock Trial Professor, Business Legal Studies Farmer School of Business, Miami University
